 The
1960's...In 1964, Cher cut her very first solo single "Ringo I Love
You". Then "I Got You Babe" was written, and from that day
on, Cher became known as the female half of the pop duo "Sonny &
Cher". It was also during this time, that Cher released her very 1st
million-selling solo "Bang-Bang".
|
|

The 1970's...Were very good to
Cher, releasing hit,
after hit, with "Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves", "Half
Breed", "Dark Lady", "The Way of Love",
"Take Me Home", just to name a few.
And
not only could we buy these records, listen to them on our radios, but
every week, we were able to turn on our television sets, watch, and
listen, to Cher sing these songs, on "The Sonny & Cher Comedy
Hour".
|
|
The
1980's...Out on her own, Cher decided to put together her own band
named, "Black Rose", they recorded one album. Two years later,
as a solo artist she recorded "I Paralyze". In the late '80's
Cher released "I Found Someone", "We All Sleep Alone",
"After All", "If I Could Turn Back Time", and
"Bang Bang". With "Bang Bang", Cher bacame the first
singer in the history of Rock and Roll to ever re-release a previous hit,
25 years later. For the first time in 10 years Cher sang "I Got You
Babe", with (former husband/partner) Sonny Bono, on "The David
Letterman Show" on November 14th, 1987. Which brought tears, not only
to everyone watching, but also to their eyes.
|
The
1990's...Hits continued to pour out of this talented entertainer, "If
I Could Turn Back Time", "Just Like Jesse James",
"Heart of Stone", "Love and Understanding", "Save
Up All of Your Tears", "Love Hurts", "The Shoop Shoop
Song", and the list continued. Cher toured during the early 90's,
spanning 2 years with the "Heart of Stone Tour" and the
"Love Hurts Tour". In the mid '90's, she released
"It's A Man's World", critically, one of her best albums. In the
late '90's Cher did the unexpected, and released a dance-pop album titled
"Believe", containing the song "Believe", that slowly
began Breaking
one record, after another, playing to sold out crowds, all over the world.
It was at #1 for 4 weeks straight in the U.S. With "Believe",
Cher became the oldest female to ever hit #1. It took the record for the
longest run (21 weeks) on the Dance/Maxi-single sales chart, and one year
later, it was in the #10 spot. In the U.K. alone, it sold over 1,500,000
copies, making Cher the #1 top selling female artist of all time. It
topped the charts in 23 countries. It was also during the 90's that Cher
was asked to sing at the "1999 Super Bowl", knocking everyone
out of their seats, and bringing many to tears, with her rendition of our
"National Anthem". |
|
The 2000's...Cher wins her first Grammy. A
cultural icon for over 30 years. She has spanned 4 decades, and holds the
record of the longest Billboard chart span (65-99) between #1's hits for a
female artist. Cher launches her Living Proof-Farewell Tour, in the U.S.
and Europe.
